Jennifer Lopez opened the 2025 American Music Awards with an iconic performance that had people talking. Jennifer Lopez not only hosted the show but also performed a medley to open the event held at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on May 26.

The singer kissed two dancers mid-performance: a male and a female dancer, respectively. She performed a medley of some of the biggest hits from last year.

But instead of the performance, she received attention for the kiss, which some viewers of the show did not seem to appreciate.

One person commented about her kiss with the female dancer, “Maybe a woman might be what she needs because no man stays with her.”

She previously hosted the event a decade ago, in 2015. She finalized her divorce from Ben Affleck earlier this year, after their short lived marriage.

The 55-year-old superstar wore a shimmer jumpsuit for her performance as she danced through a six-minute medley of the 23 biggest hit songs from the year before.

It started with her 2012 song Dance Again before it transitioned into Billie Eilish’s iconic, Birds of a Feather, Kendrick Lamar‘s Not Like Us, Sabrina Carpenter‘s Espresso, and Beyoncé‘s Texas Hold ‘Em, Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things, Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy), Teddy Swims’ Lose Control, and more.

In the middle of it all, she kissed a male and female dancer which did not sit well with all viewers.

Some people accused her of ‘queerbaiting.’ According to Wikipedia, this is defined as “a marketing technique for fiction and entertainment in which creators hint at, but do not depict, same-sex romance or other LGBTQ+ representation.”

“After 4 husbands she needed to go to the other side,” one scathing comment read.

“She would do anything for publicity,” another critical viewer wrote.

The singer-cum-actress put a lot of hard work into her performance, having practiced for the last few weeks and even suffering a facial injury during rehearsals.

She also addressed the kisses to ET. “It was fun… it’s always about love,” she simply said.

“It was fun. There was a whole narrative to the whole performance,” Jennifer said of her performance. “It was beautiful.”

“It’s always about love, it’s always about finding your way and remembering who you are,” she went on to explain.

She said she felt good about her performance, revealing, “… It cost me three stitches.”

According to her, she had “smashed [her] own face” into her knee during rehearsal, which prompted them to change the dance move to avoid injuring herself again. She had to get three stitches because of the injury.

“I didn’t trust myself to do it again without smashing my face again,” the singer said simply.

After her performance, comedian Tiffany Haddish came on stage to talk about it, “How cool is it to have a total superstar like J.Lo hosting the AMAs?” .

She joked about changing the name of the show to the“JMAs” and added, “Our host has just danced to 23 hits in six minutes.”

“Just from that opening number alone, Jenny from the Block has got all her steps in for the day, and she got all her kisses in,” she added.

“Save a dancer for me, J.Lo. Damn! You ain’t the only one out here single,” the comedian quipped. During the duration of her hosting duties, she had eight different outfit changes. Shortly after the show concluded, she announced to fans her Vegas residency.

She took to Instagram to announce it, writing, “SURPRISE JLOVERS! We’re back! I’m doing a residency in Las Vegas! Join me for Up All Night Live In Las Vegas At The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Dec 30 – Jan 3, & select dates in March!”
