Farewell To The Legend Actor – Look Where He’s Heading

Richard Gere Sells Connecticut Estate for Nearly $11 Million as He Prepares for New Life in Spain

Veteran actor Richard Gere is closing a significant chapter in his life as he prepares to move overseas with his family. The 75-year-old star, widely admired for his decades-long career and timeless charm, recently sold his Connecticut estate for just under $11 million, marking the end of his brief time in New Canaan.

According to PEOPLE, Gere had purchased the estate in 2022 for $10.8 million. Though he recently sold the property for slightly less—approximately $10.75 million—the modest loss pales in comparison to the one taken by its previous owners. Before Gere, the estate belonged to renowned musicians Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, who acquired the home for $16.5 million. Their significant financial hit underscores the fluctuating nature of luxury real estate, even in highly sought-after areas like New Canaan.

The sprawling estate, originally built in 1938, rests on 32 beautifully manicured acres and offers an ideal blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. It boasts six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, making it more than spacious for a growing family or hosting guests. Additional highlights include a swimming pool, expansive gardens, and a three-bedroom guest cottage. During his two years on the property, Gere reportedly considered transforming part of the land into a working farm, a nod to his appreciation for tranquility and nature.

Gere shared the home with his wife, Spanish publicist and philanthropist Alejandra Silva, whom he married in 2018. The couple, despite the 34-year age gap, has enjoyed a strong bond built on shared values and a deep connection to humanitarian causes. Together, they have two young sons—Alexander, 5, and James, 4—whom they plan to raise in Spain. Gere also has a 24-year-old son, Homer, from his previous marriage to actress Carey Lowell, while Silva has an 11-year-old son, Albert, from her former marriage to businessman Govind Friedland.

The decision to move to Spain is a deeply personal one for the couple. Silva, a native of Spain, has long expressed a desire to return to her roots, and Gere is eager to support her in that journey. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair Spain, the actor described the move as “a great adventure” and said he looks forward to immersing himself in his wife’s culture and offering their children a more grounded, international upbringing.

“It’s important for Alejandra to be with her family and friends,” Gere shared. “She has spent years in my world, and now it’s time for us to live in hers for a while. I want our boys to know their Spanish heritage and grow up close to their grandmother and extended family.”

The move represents not just a change in location, but a lifestyle shift for the Hollywood icon. Known for his roles in films such as Pretty WomanAn Officer and a Gentleman, and Chicago, Gere has steadily pulled away from the spotlight in recent years, choosing instead to focus on family and philanthropy. He remains active in humanitarian causes, including work on behalf of Tibetan rights and homelessness.

The relocation to Spain is expected to be a refreshing new chapter for Gere and his family, offering both a slower pace of life and the cultural richness of Alejandra’s homeland. Madrid, their future home base, provides both the sophistication of a European capital and access to Spain’s diverse landscapes and communities—an ideal backdrop for raising young children and building a peaceful life away from the public eye.

As the estate in Connecticut changes hands once again, Richard Gere seems to be turning the page not with sadness, but with excitement. After a lifetime of Hollywood red carpets, blockbuster films, and life in the American public eye, the actor is embracing a new role: husband, father, and expat.

And while his days in New Canaan are over, his fans around the world will undoubtedly be watching closely as this next act unfolds in the heart of Spain.
