Speaking in an awesome interview on Fox Business, U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman and assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia Mclaughlin explained that DHS will handcuff AOC and cart her off to jail if she performs the same sort of stunt recently engaged in by other Democrats who got arrested.
As background, Reps. Lamonica McIver, Rob Menendez, and Bonnie Coleman faced arrest after they, alongside Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, stormed an ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey, that they claimed was operating illegally. Rep. McIver was caught on tape physically assaulting DHS and ICE agents, leading to much outcry over the incident.
In the wake of the incident, AOC released a video on Instagram in which she vowed that there would be a “problem” between her an DHS if the various Democratic representatives involved in the storming of the facility were arrested. She said, at one point, “You lay a finger on Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman or any of the representatives that were there, you lay a finger on them, and we’re going to have a problem.”
Continuing, she added, referencing another one of the Democrats that was involved in the stunning Delaney Hall Detention Center incident, “If Kristi Noem wants to break the law, that’s on her. But it sure as hell is not someone like Representative Robert Menendez that needs to be arrested, okay?”
AOC also said, in her rant, “And it is enshrined in the law that members of Congress who show up to ICE and CBP facilities are required to be granted access, legally required to be granted access, and they legally cannot be inhibited from accessing these facilities to conduct their constitutional obligation to investigate and conduct oversight.”
McLaughlin wasn’t having it. In fact, commenting on AOC’s freakout and vow to treat DHS with hostility for arresting the Democrats for acting illegally, McLaughlin said that AOC could be arrested if she acts as they did and storms the Newark facility under the guise of “Congressional oversight.”
Making that comment during her appearance on FNC’s “The Bottom Line,” McLaughlin said, “If she trespasses and if she assaults law enforcement officers, as we saw earlier, I think [arrest is] certainly on the table. As far as we’ve heard, a lot of Democrats make the argument that they’re just conducting oversight, congressional oversight.”
That came when Fox Business co-host David Asman, discussing the situation and AOC’s attacks on DHS for the arrests and its handling of the situation, asked McLaughlin if an arrest of the woke Bronx Congresswoman would happen were she to go down to the facility and pull “the same kind of stunt” as McIver and the others.
In any case, continuing, and commenting on the oversight justification, McLaughlin said it was absurd and DHS would have been happy to accommodate a proper visit, but that is not what they did. She began, “We know that’s baloney because had they asked us, had they requested a tour, David, we would have happily facilitated that for them as well.”
Continuing, she noted that they threatened the safety of law enforcement officers, saying, “There are public guidelines that we have offered, including that they need to notify us 24 hours in advance if they would like a tour of the facility. So, again, this is all political gamesmanship, and we’re not playing with the safety of our law enforcement officers.” Watch McLaughlin here:
Further, during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” McLaughlin addressed AOC again, saying, “I’d like to ask AOC who does she want out of the Newark ICE facility? Is it the MS-13 members? Is it the known terrorists? Is it the child r*pists? Is it the murderers?” Watch her, and the clip of AOC making threats, here:
