11-Year-Old Girl’s Heroic Act Remembered After River Tubing Accident

What began as a joyful summer afternoon on the water turned into a moment of unimaginable heartbreak for a Florida family—one that would also reveal a young girl’s extraordinary courage.

On Tuesday, June 24, 11-year-old Jordan Roe was enjoying a family gathering at Star Lake, located near the Putnam and Alachua County line. The day included barbecuing and tubing—activities meant to bring loved ones together in the sunshine.

Jordan, known to her family as the “protector,” was joined by her 8-year-old cousin Laila and another young family member, 9-year-old Brylee, as they were pulled behind a Sea-Doo jet ski. In a sudden and tragic turn, the watercraft collided with a dock, causing all three children to be thrown into the water, according to local reports.

While Brylee sustained only minor injuries and Laila was taken to the hospital in serious condition, Jordan tragically did not survive.

Loved ones say Jordan’s final moments were defined by selflessness. Her family believes her quick actions played a critical role in helping Laila survive the incident. “Jordan gave everything for her cousin,” said one family member. “She always looked out for everyone around her.”

Laila has since undergone several surgeries and continues to recover in the pediatric intensive care unit. Her mother, Kristine Robinson, was in Tampa caring for her newborn at the time of the accident and received the heartbreaking call no parent ever wants to get.

In the wake of the incident, Robinson has emphasized the importance of water safety. “We all want to have fun with our kids,” she said in an interview. “Please be careful. And hold your loved ones tight.”

As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is asking anyone with information or footage to come forward.

Jordan is being remembered not only for her bravery but for the kindness and compassion she showed every day. She dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, loved animals, and always looked for ways to help others. A GoFundMe page created in her honor describes her as a “free spirit” with a generous heart.

Her family also shared that Jordan had expressed a wish to become an organ donor—something she was able to fulfill, bringing hope to others even in her passing.

“She gave the gift of life,” said her mother, “just like she always gave everything of herself to others.”

Tributes have poured in from across the country, including heartfelt messages from friends, neighbors, and even strangers touched by Jordan’s story. Family friend Allison Hadley wrote, “You were a light in our lives, and that light will never fade.”

Two fundraising campaigns have been launched—one to assist with Jordan’s final arrangements, and another to support Laila’s continued recovery.

Longtime Star Lake residents say the peaceful setting has been forever changed, but Jordan’s legacy will live on—in the cousin she helped protect, in the lives she’s touched, and in the hearts of those who continue to be inspired by her strength and kindness.
