Things took a disastrous turn for far-left New York Attorney General Letitia James on the evening of Thursday, May 8, as she attempted to host a town hall in New York City.
This occurred following the announcement by the FBI and DOJ that she was under investigation for mortgage fraud, stemming from a criminal referral related to a series of seemingly fraudulent incidents.
To provide context, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte requested that charges be filed against NY AG James in a letter addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche. In this correspondence, he stated, “In accordance with my authority as Director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (‘U.S. Federal Housing’ or ‘FHFA’), I am referring the matter outlined below. As the regulator of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks, we take allegations of mortgage fraud or other criminal activities very seriously. Such misconduct threatens the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the security and stability of the U.S. mortgage market.”
Citing specific instances of her purported illegal actions, Pulte remarked, “According to media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, on multiple occasions, falsified bank documents and property records to obtain government-backed assistance and loans, as well as more favorable loan terms. This may have included 1) falsifying residence status for a home located in Norfolk, Virginia, to secure a lower mortgage rate, and 2) misrepresenting property descriptions to satisfy stringent requirements for government-backed loans and assistance.”
In any event, it was subsequently announced by U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III, who oversees the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York’s Northern District, that the FBI was conducting an investigation into Letitia James regarding the alleged fraud. He stated, “This matter is currently being managed by the main Justice Department and the Albany FBI field office.”
He further remarked, “We are ready to take action as necessary when and if we are notified of any charges to be filed.” He then added, “In contrast to Letitia James, who unethically campaigned across the state with the intent of targeting Donald Trump… my office operates in a manner that is both proper and professional.”
It was this announcement regarding the FBI’s investigation of NY AG James that triggered a significant moment during the town hall, when a Trump supporter posed the question, “Will you apologize to President Trump and the state of New York for squandering millions of dollars on a witch hunt, and how does it feel to know that you may face imprisonment for mortgage fraud?”
This straightforward inquiry transformed the town hall into a scene of chaos, as Letitia James’s supporters erupted in boos, and she completely declined to respond to the question, instead instructing event security to remove the man from the venue, despite his merely asking a question during a town hall.

In April, amidst the emergence of the mortgage scandal, NYC attorney Pierre Debbas informed Fox News Digital that James had indeed conducted a witch hunt against Trump, asserting that the potential DOJ case against her is “retaliatory.” He stated, “The attorney general’s case brought against Donald Trump was, in all honesty, a blatant manipulation of the legal system, and it was quite laughable.”
He further elaborated, “To be completely candid, this is a retaliatory case initiated by the president in response to the actions taken by the attorney general against him over the past several years.” He then remarked, “This is something unprecedented in New York’s history, targeting a specific individual for a politically motivated reason.”
