The foster mother sat on the 10-year-old, crushing him to death

After just one month in his foster home, Dakota Levi Stevens’ life was brutally snatched in a manner that is beyond comprehension. Jennifer Lee Wilson, 48, his foster mother, is currently being charged with reckless homicide in Berrien County, Michigan.

The facts of Dakota’s ordeal are heartbreaking, and I want to alert you to some unsettling information. Dakota was discovered at a neighbor’s house after reportedly running away earlier in the day.

He misbehaved when they got home, acting out and flinging himself on the ground. What about Wilson’s reply? She took a seat on top of him.

Not for a moment just. Not as a passing error of judgement. No, she spent almost five minutes pressing her full weight of 340 pounds (more than 150 kg) onto a young boy who weighed only 90 pounds. While speaking with his caseworker over the phone, she took this action.

Despite her screams, Dakota remained seated. Wilson later admitted to police that she thought he was acting. According to reports, she asked Dakota if he was prepared to stand up before asking, “Are you faking?” However, she saw something icy as she moved him over: his eyelids had gone pale…

A child in the house contacted 911 right away, but it was too late. Dakota was not responding when emergency personnel arrived. Two days after being airlifted to the hospital and put on life support, he vanished. The death of Dakota occurred on April 25, 2024.

Indiana Department of Correction

The devastating results of an autopsy showed that Dakota had suffered severe internal injuries, including soft tissue trauma, liver and lung haemorrhage, and organ damage. It was decided that mechanical asphyxia was the official cause of death, meaning that Dakota was crushed to death.

The devastating details of this case, which has rocked the nation, keep coming to light. It has now come to light that Dakota rushed to a neighbor’s home and begged her to adopt him just thirty minutes before paramedics arrived. He told her his parents had struck him in the face, according to court filings.

Wilson told authorities that she was unsure whether she had tackled Dakota or if they had just fallen when she attempted to stop him from running away again, but that she only intended to keep him down, according to Fox5 Atlanta. According to CBS, Wilson entered a guilty plea to reckless homicide in October.

She had additional foster children living with her at the time, but they were taken out following the tragedy. Dakota was described as a youngster who “loved the outdoors” and always “marched to the beat of his own drum” in his obituary.

Although we are unable to bring Dakota back, we can ensure that his story is heard. Foster children are entitled to better. They are worthy of affection, defence, and a system that prevents them from falling between the cracks. Justice will be served for Jennifer Lee Wilson, but the damage cannot be reversed. Dakota, may you rest in peace. You were so deserving of more.
