Oaxacan nurse donates her organs and saves lives
In an act of generosity, Rosaura García Moreno, a 20-year-old woman from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, became a hero by donating her organs after being diagnosed with brain death.
After suffering a car accident that caused multiple fatal injuries, doctors notified her parents, who, in a gesture of solidarity, authorized the donation of her organs.
The High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) at the Specialty Hospital No. 14 of the Adolfo Ruiz Cortines National Medical Center in Veracruz performed the surgical removal. Her liver was transferred to the Siglo XXI UMAE in Mexico City, while her kidneys and corneas benefited patients in Veracruz. Rosaura, a nursing student at the Universidad del Papaloapan, Tuxtepec campus, will be remembered as a woman from the white area who fulfilled her calling to save lives until the very end. A single donor can save up to eight lives and improve the quality of life of 50 more people.
