Just last week, a heartbreaking accident on Rodovia do Sol left an entire community in mourning. The tragedy unfolded when a young couple, who had stopped on the shoulder of the road to fix a flat tire, were hit by a speeding vehicle. The Military Police were called to the scene and arrived to find a devastating and chaotic situation.
Authorities confirmed that the couple’s vehicle was a Chevrolet Cruze, while the car that struck them was a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. According to the Military Police, the S10 driver showed obvious signs of intoxication, raising serious concerns about his condition. He was immediately taken to the police station following the collision.
By the time officers arrived, the Fire Department was already on-site, providing emergency assistance to the victims. Three individuals in the Cruze were transported to nearby hospitals. Among them was the brother of a young woman named Ingrid, who also sustained injuries. Shockingly, the driver of the S10 was no longer at the scene when emergency teams arrived.
Victims and Heartbreaking Aftermath
Maicon, who had been driving the Cruze, along with another passenger, was taken to the Marataízes Emergency Care Unit. Sadly, Maicon suffered multiple fractures and did not survive. Ingrid, who was taken to Menino Jesus Hospital, also succumbed to her injuries. The news sent shockwaves through their families and friends, leaving behind immeasurable sorrow and grief.
Maicon’s uncle, Erivelto Ataliba, was among the first to receive the tragic news. “A friend called me and said he had something very sad to tell me: my nephew had been in an accident and passed away. I told him, ‘You must be joking.’ But he replied, ‘I’m serious, my friend. I’ve lost my way in life.’” His words paint a vivid picture of the despair and heartbreak that such loss brings.
The S10 Driver’s Whereabouts
After the collision, the Military Police went to the hospital where the S10 driver was receiving medical care. He initially agreed to take a breathalyzer test but was unable to blow properly, citing physical unfitness. Despite this, medical personnel confirmed he exhibited clear signs of intoxication. He remained at the hospital under police watch.
Investigation Underway
The Civil Police have launched a formal investigation into the incident. Maicon’s body was transferred to the Legal Medical Service (SML) in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim for examination. The case remains under active investigation, with more information expected to emerge in the coming days. Once discharged, the S10 driver is expected to be taken to the police station for further questioning.
