As updates aired about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, something unusual happened on The Today Show. The pace slowed. Cameras lingered. Voices softened. No one rushed to fill the silence. What unfolded felt less like a news segment — and more like a shared moment of mourning, fear, and fragile hope. Behind the restraint was something unmistakable: this story isn’t distant. It’s personal. Every pause carried weight. Every unspoken second said more than words ever could. And that final, wordless beat? It explained everything about why this broadcast felt different from anything before.

The Today show family are lending their support to Savannah Guthrie in every way they know how.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, the NBC morning show continued its coverage of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Savannah’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie.

The show also highlighted the various candlelight vigils held in Nancy’s honor and the emotional video Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, recorded making a plea to Nancy’s potential abductor.

“It was great seeing that kind of outpouring of love and support and prayer from people not just there in Tucson, but here in New York,” Savannah’s co-anchor Craig Melvin noted during the broadcast. “And, you know, folks have been coming up over the last few days, just random folks off the streets.”

“ ‘How can we help?’ ” Sheinelle Jones said.

Jones, whose husband Uche Ojeh died in May 2025 from brain cancer, reflected on the power of having community support during the tough times.

“It’s almost hard to explain it but when there’s collective prayer or thoughts, or whatever you do, it’s almost like it carries you,” the mother of three shared. “And you feel supported and we feel like if you can’t do it yourself, people will carry you. And so that’s what we’re doing. We’re wrapping our arms around their entire family and we’re carrying them.”

The Today show team also urged viewers in a call for “collective action” continuing to request that anyone with any information call it into the tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

During the Guthrie family’s raw and tearful video, which was released on Wednesday evening, Savannah, 54, and her sister, Annie, shared details about Nancy, calling her a “kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light.”

They also made a plea to her potential abductor, asking that they reach out to confirm that Nancy is still alive.

“We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her,” Savannah said through tears. “We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us.”

Authorities believe Nancy was taken from her Arizona home over the weekend and she was first reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1. Since that time, investigators have not been able to identify a suspect and the FBI has since been called in to assist in the investigation.

“[Savannah] just really wrapped her arms around me. I remember during his first surgery, Savannah rushed in,” Jones said of Ojeh’s time in the hospital. “I’m like, ‘How did you get here?’ And she prayed with my family and his family, and so they just really connected and they really bonded.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900. People are encouraged to call 88-CRIME or 520-882-7463. All calls remain anonymous. They can also use the mobile app P3TIPS or visit 88crime.org.
