AMBER ALERT LEADS TO SAFE RECOVERY OF MISSING CHILD
A routine morning stop for a local moving crew turned into a life-saving intervention this week, demonstrating the critical impact of community vigilance and the Amber Alert system.
Employees from the Camelback Moving Company in Phoenix, Arizona were at a QuikTrip convenience store grabbing a morning coffee this past Sunday. While there, several team members received an Amber Alert for a missing 3-year-old, Kehlani Rogers. The alert had been issued following reports of the child’s abduction earlier that morning.
The situation escalated quickly when a store security guard, who recognized the moving crew from earlier visits, approached them asking for help. The guard noted that a woman and child who had just entered the premises closely matched the descriptions provided in the Amber alert.
While the security guard quietly called 911, the movers positioned their trucks to block the suspect’s vehicle, ensuring she could not leave the parking lot before authorities arrived.
The Avondale Police Department responded within minutes and arrested 23-year-old Marina Noriega, who is described as a new acquaintance of the toddler’s parents. She was taken into custody and is currently facing charges related to the incident.
This successful outcome highlights the importance of specialized awareness programs. The Camelback Moving crew had recently completed training with Truckers Against Trafficking, an initiative supported by the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Trucking Association.
The program is designed to empower transportation professionals—who spend significant time in public transit hubs and neighborhoods—to recognize and report signs of exploitation and human trafficking.
This incident serves as a powerful reminder that the Amber Alert system relies on more than just technology; it relies on citizens who are willing to pay attention and act.
Because a security guard and a moving crew chose not to look away, a missing child is safe today. Police say Kehlani was unharmed, and is safely at home with her parents. 🩷
