The final photograph of Kris Kremers, a Dutch tourist who vanished with her friend, Lisanne Froon, in 2014 during a jungle hike in Panama.

After their families stopped receiving daily messages from the girls they became incredibly worried.

Arriving in Panama on April 6, the parents, accompanied by an extensive police search, scoured the forest for ten days, yielding no discoveries.

After ten weeks, a woman turned in a blue backpack containing Froon’s personal items, including a camera and their phones.

The phones showed evidence of attempting emergency calls just hours into the girls’ hike, but due to poor reception, the calls remained unconnected.

Froons’s phone died on April 4, and Kremers phone would be turned on intermintently between the 5th and the 11th, but the incorrect pin was entered, or no pin was entered each time.

Ninety flash photos were captured on the camera between 1 and 4 am, depicting complete darkness in the deep jungle. One unsettling image reveals the back of Kremers’s head with bl*od in her hair.

Two months after the backpack was discovered, a pelvis and a foot inside a boot were discovered, along with other remains.

These were later DNA tested and confirmed to belong to Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon.

What exactly happened to them remains a mystery today.

Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon were two young Dutch women who disappeared in April 2014 while hiking near Boquete, Panama. They had set out on the popular El Pianista Trail but never returned, sparking an extensive search. Weeks later, some of their belongings, including a backpack with a camera, were found. The camera contained photos taken during their hike, some of which were taken in the dark, possibly after they got lost. Months later, scattered remains of the two women were discovered in the jungle. The circumstances of their deaths remain mysterious, with theories ranging from an accidental fall to more sinister explanations. The case has attracted widespread media attention and although Panamanian authorities ruled the deaths accidental, many people still aren’t convinced.

There are so many resources and videos out there covering this case and the rabbit hole goes insanely deep if you’ve got some hours to kill. In the meantime I also made a YouTube video which covers the main aspects of the case which you can also watch here:
