Candace Cameron Bure Talks Emotional Origins Of Lifelong Eating Disorder

Candace Cameron Bure, best known for her role on Full House, opened up about her ongoing struggle with bulimia on the July 22, 2025 episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast. Speaking with guest Lisa Whittle, she revealed that her eating disorder began at 18, rooted in early messages about dieting and body image from her family.

Although she no longer binges or purges, Bure still identifies as bulimic because the thoughts remain. “I still need the tools to say, ‘No, Candace, we’re not doing that,’” she said. She emphasized she doesn’t blame her parents, who were focused on “health” and “prevention,” but that mindset made her feel her body was never good enough.

She also spoke about how faith and reading the Bible helped her heal, recalling a moment when she felt her body “spoke back” to her, reminding her of its strength.

Listeners responded emotionally, many sharing how her story resonated. One woman said, “I had no idea so many women felt like this,” while others praised Bure’s honesty and vulnerability.

Now nearing 50, Bure is more focused than ever on strength and longevity, not vanity. “I want to be able to open a peanut butter jar at 80,” she joked. Still, she faces online criticism about her appearance. In response to a comment about her aging, she posted (now-deleted) Instagram Stories, saying such remarks hurt and could affect young people even more.

“Aging is sensitive,” she wrote. “I choose to do it naturally and gracefully.” She encouraged followers to “be kind, uplift others, and spread joy.”
