The White House Rose Garden, a sacred place for many Americans, is undergoing a major renovation led by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump since June 9. The garden’s iconic green lawn has been replaced with gravel, and construction equipment is visible across the grounds.
Original hedges remain, but the transformation is significant. Trump explained the changes, saying the garden’s soft ground was problematic for events, especially for women wearing high heels.
While the project is described as a restoration to improve functionality and honor tradition, critics are upset about the loss of historical elements, especially the lawn installed by Melania in 2020.
Besides the garden, plans include a new ballroom and two large flagpoles, with Trump personally funding the updates. Supporters welcome the improvements, but others feel key pieces of presidential history are being erased. Regardless, the Trumps are clearly leaving their mark on the White House.
