Joe Biden Speaks Out After Being Diagnosed With ‘Aggressive’ Cancer

After the announcement of his diagnosis with what’s being described as an ‘aggressive’ form of prostate cancer, former president Joe Biden has now addressed the public.

On May 18, his personal office released a formal statement regarding his health, saying: “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.”

“On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

When it comes to prostate cancer, doctors use a rating system called the Gleason score to assess how aggressive the disease is. The scale runs from one to 10, with higher numbers indicating a more serious condition. A score of nine, like Biden received, is considered one of the most severe.

The same statement also included this detail: “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”

“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

On Twitter, the 82-year-old posted a photo of himself alongside his wife, Jill, and their family cat. The moment captured was both simple and heartfelt.

The caption on the post read: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

“Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump also responded to Biden’s diagnosis. He took to his Truth Social account to share a few words following the announcement.

Trump wrote: “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

It’s worth noting that this isn’t Biden’s first experience dealing with cancer. In the past, he had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed. That was before his time in office. Then, in February 2023, he underwent a procedure to remove a cancerous lesion from his chest.

Back in November 2021, Biden also had a polyp removed from his colon. While it wasn’t cancerous, doctors said it was a type that could become cancer over time if left untreated.
