Now, a new book titled Tiger, Tiger: His Life, As It’s Never Been Told Before, written by bestselling author James Patterson, reveals fresh details about their dramatic breakup.
According to the book, described as ”a hole-in-one thriller”, the high-profile marriage began to unravel after a Thanksgiving dinner in 2009. In their Florida home, Elin decided to confront Tiger Woods about his rumored affair with 34-year-old television host Rachel Uchitel.
Uchitel first gained public attention following the September 11 attacks when a photo of her holding a picture of her fiancé, who worked in the World Trade Center.
While the golf star denied having an affair with Uchitel, he admitted to knowing her.
However, Elin was unconvinced. Tiger suggested that she call Uchitel to sort it out, which made Elin hesitate. But when Woods went to bed after the Thanksgiving dinner, with the help of a Ambien sleeping pill, Elin took matters into her own hands.
She grabbed Woods’ phone and discovered frequent communication with Uchitel, alongside numerous messages from a 24-year-old Los Angeles cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs.
According to the book, Elin decided to confront Uchitel.
She phoned the hostess and said, ”I know everything.”
”Because you’re f***ing my husband..”
She then dialed Jaimee Grubbs, reportedly yelling, ”You know who this is because you’re f***ing my husband!”
Afterward, Elin entered the bedroom to confront her husband, who responded by locking himself in the bathroom.
Woods eventually fled the house, getting into his Cadillac, but didn’t get far before crashing into a fire hydrant in the middle of the night.
That’s when all hell broke loose.
Two hundred paparazzi descended on the scene, hiding in trees and swarming the area, eager to know what golf club Elin had used to break the Cadillac’s windows.
The crash marked the final nail in the coffin of Tiger Woods’ lies. He announced that he would take an indefinite break from professional golf to focus on being a better husband, father, and person.
But the floodgates had opened.
“An onslaught of porn stars, strippers, escorts, and party girls” came forward to claim they’d had sexual encounters with Woods, leaving Elin “embarrassed for having been so deceived,” as Patterson writes in the book, according to the Daily Mail.
The couple sought therapy, but ultimately, Elin realized that a marriage lacking ‘trust and love’ was detrimental to both of them. They divorced in August 2010, with Elin reportedly receiving a $100 million settlement (Woods was worth at least six times that amount) and shared custody of their children.
”Money doesn’t make you happy, but I have to be honest: It is making some things easier,” she told People.
