FBI Director Kash Patel has directed staff to avoid replying to an email initiated by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, which solicited federal employees to detail their achievements from the prior week.
In a memo acquired by NewsNation, Patel indicated that the bureau would manage any forthcoming inquiries from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
“FBI personnel may have received an email from OPM requesting information,” Patel noted in his communication, as reported by The Hill. “The FBI, through the Office of the Director, oversees all of our review processes and will conduct evaluations in line with FBI protocols.” He further stated, “Should additional information be necessary, we will coordinate the responses. For the time being, please refrain from any replies.”
Musk, who has been leading the White House’s initiatives to reduce the size of the federal government, announced on his social media platform X that federal employees would soon receive an email “seeking to understand what they accomplished last week.”
