Social media sensation Brie Bird dies aged 9.

Brielle “Brie” Bird, a 9-year-old social media sensation who won the hearts of millions worldwide by documenting her fight against cancer, passed away on December 11, five years after being diagnosed with a severe and recurring type of neuroblastoma.

Brie gained fame on Instagram, where she shared her everyday experiences, hospital visits, treatments, and joyful moments with an audience that eventually grew to over 650,000 followers at @briestrongerthancancer. Her posts served as rays of hope for families facing similar challenges, especially those dealing with neuroblastoma, which predominantly affects young children.

Brie was first diagnosed with stage-4 neuroblastoma in 2020. Although the illness was devastating, she fought through years of treatment and achieved remission in 2022. Sadly, the cancer returned in January 2024. As her condition worsened, she was moved to hospice care in July for end-of-life support, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Despite the heartbreak of seeing their daughter in her final days, Brie’s family aimed to make her remaining time as joyful and meaningful as they could. In August, the young girl received an unexpected surprise. Ariana Grande, one of her favorite artists, sent her a Christmas care package, bringing a brief moment of happiness during a challenging time. Brie’s reaction to the gift was incredibly sweet and touching; she even shared a video of herself unboxing the items with her fans.

Many of the gifts were inspired by Wicked and Glinda, the beloved character portrayed by Ariana in the hit movie, which made it even more enchanting for the young fan. Brie was deeply touched by the generosity, and the video has since gone viral. Many have commended the singer’s kindness and the joy it brought to Brie.

In a touching Instagram post on December 18, mother Kendra reflected on her last conversations with Brie from the week prior to her passing and celebrated her remarkable courage. In a statement announcing their daughter’s death, Brie’s family referred to her as a “miracle” and expressed their appreciation for the inspiration she provided to countless others around the globe.

“One week ago from this very moment, we were having regular conversations,” Kendra reminisced about her final talk with her daughter. “We discussed the finishing touches you wanted to add to your Christmas list, why Annie was an orphan (since we had watched it the night before), and sleeping in your room on Christmas Eve. An hour later, you had drifted off to sleep, and we never heard your voice again.

She went on to say: “I lay beside you, while dad was next to your bed. We both held you as your body made its transition, whispering all the things we’ve shared with you over the past 9 years. ‘You’re incredible! You are so cherished. You have made a difference in the world. It’s such an honor to be your mom.’
